Week 8 - Tutorial Task

Report on the progress of uploading our one and a half to two minute audio-visual production using still images:

Week 3:

Progress

It was only after last weeks exercise that I suddenly became aware that the whole point of this task was to  understand the copyright system that was to be used when using Free Images and learn to use Creative Commons.

During tutorial this week, I continued to access Creative Commons to find more images for our audio-visual project, keeping copyright requirements in mind.  This means that when I copied the image I also copied all the copyright information into a word document that I was using to keep all the information together.   I also used searches for Free Images to access other sites like Bing but ended up going back to Creative Commons because I understood how to use that site.  The team discussed the importance of this, to ensure that we all went back over images and music we had copied for use and made sure that we had all the copyright and attribution details necessary

I wanted to find images in relation to Terms of Use and Copyright advices on various webpages such as Google, Yahoo, Facebook.  I found a few extras eg Nokia as well and we can decide on what we are using when we are putting our project together.

We decided that we would upload all images and data we were going to use onto the Facebook page.  This would make it easier for us all to see what was being collated.

Issues

I was trying to locate the copyrights to images I had downloaded in week 6 before I knew about the correct procedure for copyright requirements.  I spent a lot of time on this because I really liked the images I had found.  Unfortunately I was not able to and therefore we cant use those images.

Tara was also doing the same - finding images and their copyright.  She was also trying out a number of other free content sites such as Dreamtime.co and Shutterstock.com as we had found that material available on creative Commons artistically quite restrictive.

Meetings

Organising a time that the whole team could  meet was also a problem.  Whoever was available, met separately a number of times over the coming week to organise the material.

Getting close to putting it all together.

Wrap-up

We all met up at a Mac computer lab at Griffith uni.  We were going to use Final Cut Pro to put it all together (Crystal knew how to use that software) but that software was not on these computers.   No time for panic - iMovie was available - so necessity and the deadline ensured that we learnt fast.  Before we knew it , under our direction we had produced an audio-visual piece.  It had all fallen into place.

We didn't use all our images as we were constrained by the time limit and felt it would be too cluttered and distracting.  We also decided against suing voice recording and voice overs as it would have taken away from the message we were trying to present.

We have ensured that all the images, music and data have been attributed.  These can be found under the uploaded video on YouTube.

I would like to acknowledge and thank my team.  They were great - easy going, supportive and positive to the end.  Thanks Crystal and Tara.  We did it - and we're proud of it.  Our first production!
